The Pollard Family
This material has been kindly contributed by Lyn Pollard. Below are numerous extracts from census records and burial, baptism, marriage and banns registers. You may well find it worth searching as there are other family names connected to the Pollard's.

“
Edward S, b 1869 “
Fredrick (ggrandfather) is my direct ancestor. He arrives to Manitoba, Canada to homestead near Carberry in 1881. He has a partner and they operate a store briefly. Fred goes to Ontario, Canada and meets/marries Mary Gillies in 22 April 1885. They go to Russell, Manitoba where young Fred (grandfather) is born, March 30, 1886, then they carry on to Assiniboia (now Saskatchewan) where they homestead. Homestead documents are dated 1884 for all these Pollards. Fred’s father, Thomas, has the adjoining homestead and brothers Harold, John, and Alfred also claim homesteads in the area. The ship’s arrival for Fred is 1881; for Edward and Alfred 1885. By 1901, none remain in Assinboia – Fred is in Yahk, BC; Harold has relocated to Alberta. John was John Grigg Pollard and he had 2 homesteads at Assiniboia, one which was forfeited to the brother of Fred’s wife. I have yet to be find the rest. Documentation shows John G in the NWMP (Mar 12, 1888 – Apr 17, 1889) and at discharge was ‘invalided and of Fair character’. Thomas was in the Winnipeg Upper Light Infantry Battalion 1885. Often they were awarded land therefore Thomas may have remained in the Winnipeg area. Apparently these jobs were to supplement income. Fred writes that he went ‘railroading’ on occasion to supplement his income – in Detroit and Montana - before 1901.
Fred eventually locates on a homestead in north-central Alberta and his children access the adjoining quarters.
Unknown at present the further travels of Thomas Sr, Thomas Jr, Edward, Alfred but Harold homesteaded in S. Alberta. William was known to be in the banking business in England for his entire life. Other than Jane being an opera singer with the Dolly Carte?, residing at Bogna Regis? and being unmarried all her life, other details on this family remain elusive.
