St Ive Parish

Extract from Harrod’s Royal Directory of Cornwall 1878

 

St Ive is a parish and village 4 miles from Callington and 4 miles from Liskeard, in the east division of the County, hundred of East, union and county court district of Liskeard, diocese of Truro, archdeaconry of Bodmin and rural deanery of East. The church dedicated to St Ive, is a beautiful edifice, with windows of elaborate tracery and a fine tower with twelve pinnacles. The living is a rectory, annual value £458, with residence and 80 acres of glebe land, in the gift of the Crown. The Rev. Reginald Hobhouse, MA., is the rector. The Wesleyans, United Methodist Free Church and the Bible Christians have  each chapels. There are National schools for boys, girls and infants. The acreage is 5780, of which the chief landowners are Sir Bourchier Wrey, Bart., (Lord of the Manor), Lady Ashburton, D Collins Esq., Colonel A Coryton, W D Horndon Esq., and Miss D G A Strode. The population ia about 2950. Pensilva is a village belonging to this parish, and has a school licensed for divine service.
