The original parish registers, 1689 to 1900, have been retained
by the Rector of South Hill and Callington. The transcript was
originally made possible by the kind co-operation of the then incumbent,
Rev. Nigel Fox. Mrs S. Lightbody provided facilities for re-checking the
registers in order to produce the revised transcript. Mrs. Lightbody
also kindly passed on a copy of the revised transcript to me, Daphne
Packer, and this was used to produce this copy on disc. 2
Remnants of an earlier South Hill register have been repaired,
rebound, and deposited at the Cornwall County Records Office. This
volume includes Marriages 1566-1612, 1617, and 1623-1626. 3
All information contained in the registers has been noted, with
the exception of the names of officiating ministers. 4
There are no apparent gaps in marriage registration between 1689
and 1837. 5
In the 1754 -1837 sections, it should be assumed that the
witnesses signed, unless otherwise indicated. 6
Some contracted Christian names have been expanded e.g. Ed; -
Edward. 7
All surviving Bishops Transcripts (to 1812) have been checked and
collated with the register entries.
The symbol * refers to information derived from the B.T’s. 8
Surviving Banns entries have been checked and included in this
transcript, although banns dates have not been noted. 9
