SOUTH HILL is a parish and village 4 miles form Callington and 7 miles from Liskeard railway station, in the east division of the county, hundred of East, union and county court district of Liskeard, diocese of Truro, archdeaconry of Bodmin, and rural deanery of East. The church is dedicated to St Sampson. The living is a rectory, annual value of £750, with residence, and 240 acres of glebe land, in the gift of Lady Ashburton. The Rev. Francis Vansittart Thornton is the rector. St Barnabas Chapel-of-Ease, Trewordley, Rev. W. E. Collin, curate in charge. The Wesleyans have a chapel. There is a National School for boys and girls. The acreage is 295a. 0r. 33., (?) of which the chief landowners are William Horndon,  Esq., Lady Ashburton (lady of the manor), Rev. C. Prior, Sir John Copley, Bart., C. Trelawny, Esq., D. Horndon, Esq., and Mrs White. Golbidern and Trevigro are the hamlets belonging to this parish.
