Coad & Whitlock Family

Lower Charaton Farmhouse. Photo taken circa 1870 and found in the possessions of Ann Coad/Whitlock, photo below.

Lower Charaton Farm as it was in early 2003, extensions are now being added. It is no longer part of a farm.

The elderly lady in the bottom centre of this photograph is Ann COAD who was born and lived her early life at Lower Charaton. She later married Christopher Whitlock and
"came to Australia in 1869 in the sailing ship "Suffolk"and proceeded to Ballarat . In 1871 they went to the Moolort gold diggings, travelling by one of the Cobb and Co. Coaches, but in 1873 they took up land at Tarrengower, where they resided till the death of Mr. Whitlock, and since that time she had resided with her daughter at Stanley. Mrs. Whitlock was one of the true pioneers, who went cheerfully through hardships and never complained."
Extract from her obituary when she died in Australia at the age of 98years. The photograph of the Whitlock family was taken prior to 1915.
