Linkinhorne Census

Although there had been earlier attempts at census, mainly for taxation purposes, it wasn't until the 19th century that they became a regular event every ten years. Very few records exist from the 1801, 1811, 1821 and 1831 census. Those records that do exist often just reveal a head count. The 1841 census was the first to provide the name and age of every person. From 1851 relationships and parishes of origin were included. From 1841 the census took place at the end of March or beginning of April every 10 years. The 1901 census is now available, but there is a 100 year embargo on most information from later censuses.
